Although Chattanooga is our chorus home, our members are from the tri-state area including north Georgia, northeast Alabama, and southeast Tennessee. All ages from teens to seventies and a wide variety of backgrounds and lifestyles are represented among our membership. Each of us share a bond through a love of music, performance and competition.
The main purpose of Scenic City Chorus is to sing and perform for our community. We sing for community events and concerts as well as host an annual show. In addition to sharing our music with others, we share a passion for learning more about the art of a cappella singing. Sweet Adelines offers opportunities for personal and musical growth as well as the joy of singing in an ensemble. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals and a very important component of the chorus experience. Throughout the course of the year, we receive coaching in the art of barbershop harmony from visiting experts.
Each Spring, Scenic City Chorus participates in the Region 23 chorus competition in Chattanooga, TN. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together and sing for each other to receive constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both chorus and quartet categories move to the international competition level, which is held in the fall of each year. In 2012 our international competition will be held in Denver, Colorado.
Within choruses, members often form their own quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. Scenic City Chorus strongly encourages quartet singing and is very proud of the quartets within our group. Click here to learn more about our Quartets.
Scenic City Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a non-profit organization of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets worldwide. The Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Scenic City is a non-profit charitable organization as described under the Internal Revenue Code, Section 501(c)(3).
